Astrida Silis, age 90, of St. Peter passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Oak Terrace Memory Care in Le Sueur.

Memorial Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Woodland Hills.  Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Mankato.  Memorials are preferred to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, BENCHS, or Alzheimer’s Association.  Astrida was born May 6, 1927 to Peteris and Aleksandra (Vanags) Petersons in Ikskile, Latvia.  In 1948, Astrida was married to Ziedonis Silis in Kemptene, Germany.  After arriving to the United States they were sponsored by a family near Norseland, MN, and later made their home in Mankato.  Astrida worked passionately and enjoyed her 36 years at Minnesota State University – Mankato in the Placement Office and Registrar’s Office.  She loved her family, music, the outdoors and all animals, especially horses and dogs.  Astrida was a kind, compassionate, generous, lady with a sunny and fun disposition.  

Astrida is survived by her children, Maruta Grean and Ainars (Deb) Silis; grandsons, Christopher (Jennifer) and Andrew (Cassandra) Grean; and her dog, Carmen.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three older brothers.  

A heartfelt thank you to all the caregivers at Benedictine in St. Peter, the administration and caregivers at Oak Terrace in Le Sueur, and St. Croix Hospice.

Astrida was such a sweet lady. I remember working with her here at MSU and loved her contagious smile. I will remember her fondly!
