Sharon M. Jacobsen died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at her home north of St. Peter.  Memorial services will be held at 11am Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 9:30am to the time of the services at Woodland Hills.  Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

Sharon M. Jacobsen was born on March 27, 1942 in rural Medo Township, Mapleton, MN.  She was the fifth of seven children born to Clair and Lydia (Ferch) Spotts.  Sharon was baptized on March 25, 1945 at the United Brethren Church in Waterville.  Her baptism was re-affirmed on December 17, 2017 at her home on Valleyview Rd., rural St. Peter, MN.

As a young girl Sharon grew up in the Waterville and Mankato Minnesota area where she attended public schools.  Tragedy struck the Spotts family when their home was destroyed by fire when Sharon was a young girl.  Fortunately, no one died in the fire, but all family possessions were lost.  Sharon later attended high school for a while in Mankato.  As a young woman she worked at Tempo, a variety store on Victory Dr. in Mankato for 12 years, and later for 29 years at Cotter and Co., the True Value Hardware distribution center in Mankato until her retirement.

Sharon was first married to Robert Smith.  They later divorced.  She was the mother of two children, Tamra and Todd.  In November 1985 Sharon married Donald Jacobsen.  Sharon embraced Don’s family as her own.  Don and Sharon made their home on Valleyview Rd., rural St. Peter where they enjoyed nearly 33 years of marriage.  Sharon loved shopping, travel, bingo, flowers, gardening, bird watching, music, and more than anything, treasured time with her friends and family.  Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Following a diagnosis of brain cancer in October, 2017, Sharon underwent surgery at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Mankato.  After a short recovery, she moved to the Benedictine Center in St. Peter where she underwent therapy until she was well enough to return home with Don.  She died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Sharon is survived by her husband Don; daughter Tamra “Tami” Adams of Henderson; son Todd Smith of Elk River; step-daughter Bonnie Danberry of Mankato; granddaughter Tashina (Jake) Schultz; four step-grandchildren: Amber Jacobsen, Holly Unander, David Unander and Crystal (Stephen) Kraus.  She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Emma Jo Schultz; eight step-great-grandchildren: Kayla, Grace, Norah and Brooklyn Ireland; Phoebe Unander-Houx; Hailey, Jackson and Lucas Kraus; and three sisters: Darlene Bjorklund of Phoenix, AZ, Marlene (Ron) Peil of Hurricane, UT, and Judy Goats of Yachats, OR; and many friends and neighbors.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents: Clair and Lydia Spotts; three brothers Duane, Russell and Charles “Chuck” Spotts; brother-in-law Roy Bjorklund; and her stepson, Donald “Donnie” Jacobsen.  The family expresses deep gratitude and thanks to Mayo Hospice – East Team and Freedom Home Care LLC for their excellent care in the final weeks of Sharon’s life.

Blessed be the memory of Sharon M. Jacobsen.
