Evelyn M. Rome, with family by her side, earned her eternal rest on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Laurels Edge Assisted Living, Mankato. She was 101 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home Chapel, Mankato, MN.  Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 pm, Friday, June 15 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Hospice Program.
Evelyn was born January 5, 1917 in Compton, CA to Charles and Loretta Mouck. She loved California but she met sailor Wm. Bruce Rome and married him on June 5, 1941 in Las Vegas, NV and in 1949 moved permanently to Minnesota. She was a wonderful homemaker, making nutritious meals, growing and canning fruits and vegetables and creating beautiful flower gardens. Trained as a seamstress in technical college she sewed countless clothes, coats, formals, wedding dresses, doll clothes and even drapery. She was involved in church and was a member of Mankato’s First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Evelyn enjoyed reading, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, Scrabble, visiting with family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by 2 sons, Gary (Susan) Rome of Jacksonville, FL, Steve Rome and special friend Lyn Pengelly of Mankato; 2 daughters ,  Claudia (Don) Giroux of Ham Lake, MN, and Carol (Doug) Smith of Mankato; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Mary Rome and Harriet Rome and  brother-in-law Dick (Connie) Rome and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard and Willard Mouck and her husband, Wm. Bruce Rome who passed away May 31, 2003 and has been waiting for her.
