Merle Braam, age 81, of North Mankato, passed away peacefully Friday, October 26th, 2018 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 2nd at 11am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Father Paul van de Crommert will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, November 1st from 4-7pm at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, 1605 Woodland Ave, Mankato and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at Holy Rosary.  A prayer service and rosary will begin at 6:45pm on Thursday.
Merle was born October 14, 1937 in Mankato, MN to John and Lucille (Rieff) Braam. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1955 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married Mary Sieberg on June 20, 1959. After an honorable discharge in 1962, Merle moved back to Mankato with his family and began working at Kato Engineering, where he worked for nearly 40 years, until he retired in 1999. Merle loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and biking.  He was an excellent craftsman, and enjoyed woodworking very much. He was friendly to everyone, and would share a story and joke with all.
Merle is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary, of North Mankato; his children, Julie (Chris) Myrick of Laurel, MS; Dan (Nancy) Braam of New Ulm, MN; Tim (Katie) Braam of Cary, NC; Ric (Debbie) Braam of Farmington, CT; and Cindy Gawrych of North Mankato; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; siblings Geri Fitcher, Larry Braam, David Braam, John Braam, Jo Schmidt, Steve Braam, Teresa Yezarski, and Patrick Braam.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Francis Braam and Don Braam, and infant son Robert.
The family would like to thank Mayo Clinic Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Merle in his last months.
