Steven D. Archerd, 65, Mankato, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at his home.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Word of Life Lutheran Church, Mankato.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.  Woodland Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Steven D. Archerd was born to Donald C. and Leona M. (Eggers) Archerd on March 19, 1953, in Mankato, Minnesota.  The family lived in Minneapolis for a short time and then moved to Winnebago where Steve attended grade school and junior high.  They returned to Mankato in 1968.  Steve graduated from Wilson High School in Mankato, in 1971 and lived in Mankato for the rest of his life.  

Steve enlisted in the Army in 1974 and served on tugboats in Virginia for 2 years.  During that time, he married Sharon Freitag of Mankato.  They had two sons, André and Fletcher.  He worked as a long distance semi-truck driver for many years.  Steve retired due to health issues in 2016.

Steve is survived by his former wife Sharon of Mankato, sons André  (Juana), her children Etta and Solvej of North Mankato and Fletcher (Kyle) of Mankato, sister Jo Peterson (Dave) of North Mankato, brothers Galen (Darlene) of Mankato, Kent (Dianne) of Shakopee and many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

I may have met Steve when we were children, at family events in Madilia. But I only really met him at an Archerd cousin’s reunion a few years ago. We spent part of a day with him the following year. How I wish I’d met Cousin Steve years earlier. We would have been good friends. Y condolences to his family.
