Virginia H. “Ginger” Gerdts, age 75 of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at BridgeWater in Janesville.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin and Rev. Paul Muther officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Iosco Township, Waseca County.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church Discipling Center in Janesville, and will continue on Monday morning one hour prior to services at church. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.

Virginia Helen was born on February 1, 1943 to Edward and Goldie (Burmeister) Stencel in Mankato, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton. She had her first communion June 17, 1951 and was confirmed October 9, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waldorf.  She graduated from Waldorf High School in 1960 and went on to attend Mankato Teachers College. On November 28, 1962 she was united in marriage to Eugene Gerdts at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville and on March 25, 1963 she was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.  After their marriage Ginger and Gene moved to Alton Township, Waseca County where they began farming and she drove school bus part time.  For 32 years Ginger was employed by the Janesville Nursing Home and the Mankato Clinic.  She enjoyed flower gardening, cross stitch, quilting, trips on the golf cart with Gene and the dogs, and especially loved time spent with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Eugene “Gene” Gerdts of Janesville; sons, Jerome (Christy) Gerdts of Truman, Jeffrey (Jodie) Gerdts of North Mankato, Jason (Ann) Gerdts of Janesville; grandchildren, Jakob and Justine Gerdts, Katie (Kevin) Will and Kellie Gerdts, Brady (Wylie and Lennon Rollings) and Danielle Gerdts; step grandchildren, Chelsea and Steven; brothers, Gerald (Kathy) Stencel of Waldorf, Joseph (Marsha) Stencel of New Jersey, John Stencel of Kentucky; sisters, Jeanette Ragusin of California, Mary Kay Pasanen of Park Rapids, Gloria (Bill) Hoppe of Mankato;  many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward Stencel Jr.

Ginger was a wonderful woman! I enjoyed the many years of working with Ginger at the Mankato Clinic. Ginger was intelligent, compassionate and kind. Ginger will be greatly missed! She loved her family and my sympathy to all of you!

Gene, Jerome, Jeff, Jason and families. I am so sorry to hear of Ginger's passing. May you find comfort knowing she is in heaven free of health problems and in the arms of Jesus. Thinking of you all and praying for peace.
