George Lee Young passed away February 21, 2019 at Mayo Hospital in Mankato MN. Funeral will be held at Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato, Thursday February 28, 2019 at 1:30 PM, with visitation 1 hour prior. Lunch and fellowship will follow service. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

George Lee Young was born to Born August 11, 1933 to Jesse Fred and Nellie M. (McConnell) Young in Mankato MN.  George attended Mankato schools when he was young. He enlisted in the US Army Oct 25, 1950 and was stationed at Camp Polk, LA for basic training, then trained with the 869th Medical Collection Company.  He then went to Frankfurt Germany and was assigned to the 97th general hospital for the rest of his enlistment. He was honorably discharged from the Army Oct 25, 1953. George worked about 2 years in construction in Mankato. On Aug 15, 1955 he enlisted in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. George went to aircraft maintenance school in Wichita Falls TX. He was stationed at the following bases: Patrick AFB Florida, Tainan AFB Taiwan, Elgin AFB Florida, Udorn AFB Nakhon Thailand, Dover AFB DL, PHANON AFB Thailand, McGuire AFB New Jersey, and retired in October 1972. George was an active member of the Mankato VFW Post 950 & past post commander in 1981, member of American Legion 617 Eagle Lake MN, and member of the Air Force Sargent’s Association.  After his military service George moved in with his mother Nellie to take care of her and the house, after Nellie passed away George moved to Walnut Towers. George liked to go hunting and fishing and taught himself how to be a lock smith.

George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Clifford, Earl, Stanley, Alfred, Harland, sister; Carolyn Gilmore and nephews: William, Stanley Jr, and Douglas. George is survived by many nephews and nieces.
