Woodland Hills Funeral Home

   Donald B. Nierman, age 84 of Madison Lake, MN, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Janesville Nursing Home.              
   Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, with Fr. Robert Schneider, Celebrant.
   Visitation will be on Monday morning for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Madison Lake. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is in charge of arrangements. The Mass of Christian Burial can also be seen via live streaming at
   Donald Bernard was born on January 16, 1935 to Ben and Bertha (Pfieffer) Nierman in Sauk Center, Minnesota. On September 14, 1954 he was inducted into the United States Army and served his country until his honorable discharge on September 20, 1956. Don married the love of his life, Mary Lou Leesch on November 3, 1962. He was employed for 30 years at Schwickert’s Plumbing and Heating of Mankato and also worked 12 years for General Sheet Metal Corporation until his retirement in 1997. Don volunteered at All Saints Catholic School in Madison Lake from 1999 to 2002. He loved being with the kids who all called him Grandpa Don. He was a very proud 50 plus year member of the Sheet Metal Union Local #10, and a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, and the Mankato VFW Post #9713. Don enjoyed fishing, woodworking, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard. He loved to travel, and enjoyed his trips to Alaska with his fishing buddies and his Florida trips every winter with his wife.
   Donald is survived by his daughter, Robin (Dale) Hoelscher, of Janesville, MN; son, Don (Jackie) Nierman of Madelia, MN; grandsons, Wesley (Sammy) Hoelscher, Nathan Hoelcher, and Lane Nierman; sister-in-law, Jeannie (Dave) Waltermann; many nieces, and nephews, and other relatives and friends
   He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou on June 9, 2010; brother, Elmer Nierman.
