   Barbara Carol Thomson Harmer, age 92, of rural Mankato, died peacefully, May 22, 2019 at her home. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will be held at 5:30 pm that day. Burial will be private in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

   Barbara was born Christmas Day 1926 to Leland and Margaret (Nutt) Thomson in Lake Crystal. She was a 1946 graduate of Mankato High School and graduated from Mankato Teachers College in 1950 with specialist in K-12 Art and PE majors. Between 1948 and 1949 she worked summers with Jack in Glacier National Park. From 1950 to 1954 Barbara taught art at Ramsey Junior High in Minneapolis. She married John “Jack” Harmer April 6, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mankato. In 1962 the couple moved into the extended family triplex built by themselves and their parents. Barbara is best known for her 28 years as a K-12 Art teacher in Mankato for District 77. She received her Masters of Science in Art in 1968. This brought her to teach MSU students art at the Behavioral Model Program at White Earth, Minnesota as practicum for her Specialist Degree. In 1972 she received her Specialist Degree Curriculum and Instruction. She also became an Amway/Quixtar Networking Independent Business Operator with Jack.  Barbara was very active in many facets of serving and trusting in her Lord Jesus including a church tape ministry for shut-ins with her husband Jack and continuing on for a time with Kim and Boone.  In her spare time she enjoyed teaching, singing, drawing, gardening, baking bread, e-mail, and e-mail ministry via computer, continuing education at MSU, daily Bible reading, intercessory prayer; praying without ceasing, being with family and sharing trust in Jesus.

   She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Lowell) True, Mankato and son, Boone Harmer, Mankato; grandsons, Jason True and Nick (Brooke) True; 6 great grandchildren, Ava True, Greta True, Kendyl True, Brynn True, Bree True and Briggs True.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband and best friend Jack in 1998, parents and one sister Patricia Gross.

Barb's Family,
They just don't come any better. Barb brought out the best in people, raising the bar for all of us. She was bold in sharing her love for Jesus and a beacon to her family, students and neighbors. She remained humble and joyful throughout adversities. We are blessed to have known her.
