Hilary Ovid Rinehart 85 of Mankato passed peacefully on to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 20, 2019 surrounded by his family after a short and unexpected battle with gall bladder cancer.

Hil was born on April 23, 1934 in Littlefork, Minnesota to Ovid and Ellen Rinehart. He graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1952. He met Joyce Connie Hassing and they married in 1956. Together they had five children, and today they enjoy 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

After a 37-year career working at Continental Can Company, Hil was able to retire in 1989. For 25 years, Hil and Connie enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. and Canada in their motorhomes.

Hil loved bowling, golfing, watching the Twins and Vikings games and most of all, attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He also loved deer hunting every fall with his family and filling "Grandpa's Wall of Fame" with the bucks he shot.

Hil is survived by his wife Connie of 63 years, children Kathy (Kevin) Guttormson of Grand Rapids, Tim (Kim) Rinehart of Le Sueur, Shelley (Jim) Becker of Mankato, Tom (Lisa) Rinehart of Mankato, Sue (Pete) Johnson of Indianapolis, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

To all of Hilary's family, I was saddened about his sudden illness and passing. Having had the privilege of many years working for Hilary, I held him in high regard for his friendliness, respect, fairness, and in so many instances, his sense of humor. In years after his retirement we had acquaintances in common, most often someone whom he golfed with, who spoke so highly of him. My condolences to all of his family, he will always be remembered.
