Matthew Barr, 37, Mankato, passed away on March 10, 2020 in McCook, IL due to a workplace accident.  A visitation will be held from 4-7pm Friday, March 20, 2020 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home.  Due to the current situation there will be a register book available outside the front door of the funeral home from 1-7pm on Friday for those that would like to sign, drop off cards, and take a memorial folder but choose not to come inside.  Funeral services will be private.  Private interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.  Memorial donations may be made to the family.

Matt was born October 23, 1982 in Mankato to Rodney Barr and Wendy Motto.  He grew up playing baseball, football, wrestling and hockey.  He also enjoyed bowling and watching family member’s race cars.  In 2003 Matt became a proud father, welcoming his son, Hayden, into the world.  Two years later in 2005 he welcomed his daughter, Marina.  On June 11, 2011 Matt married Jennifer “Jen” Burmeister and became an amazing bonus dad to Jen’s children, Ryan and Megan.

Matt loved anything that had to do with the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and trapping.  His latest obsession and hobby was his saltwater tank.  Matt was also a dog lover but his heart belonged to his pittie, Windsor.  Matt was a kind hearted soul that would help anyone.  He loved to share his knowledge he had to anyone who would listen, this quality made Matt a great mentor.

Matt was an employee of Kato Engineering in North Mankato at the time of his death.  In November 2019 he was promoted to a service technician.  He loved the idea of having the opportunity to travel the world while fixing and maintaining the generators he helped to build.

Matt is survived by his wife, Jen of Mankato; children, Hayden and Marina Barr of St. Peter and Ryan and Megan Rosenbauer of Mankato; mother, Wendy (Mike) Wachtel of Eagle Lake; father, Rod (Rhonda) Barr of Mapleton; sisters, Brittany Barr (fiancé Matt Unzeitig) of Edina and Taylor Painter of Blue Earth; grandparents, Roberta Motto of Mankato, Ron and Karen Motto of North Mankato, and LaDonna Barr of Mapleton; nieces, Leighton Borland and Brianna Attenberger; nephews, Brett Attenberger, Ethan and Alex Adams; parent in-laws, Pete and Jeanette Burmeister of Mankato; sister in-law Krista Adams of Owatonna; aunt, Robin Truebenbach of Isle, MN;  uncles, Randy Barr of Wichita, Kansas and George Motto and his girlfriend, Barb Lyons, whom he thought of as his aunt; and many cousins and other family members.

Matt is preceded in death by his grandfather, Rodger Barr; and aunt, Sandra Motto.

I was fortunate enough to meet Matt while he worked out on the floor. During his transition to service work I got to know him better through our AM routine. He was always a pleasure to speak with and wore a smile like no other. No matter the situation he always took pride in what he did & spoke about the love he has for his family and life. I look forward to crossing paths with him down the road. Even though Matt is gone, never forget how much light he shared with everyone during his time here on earth. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow.

To the family of Matt,

I have known Matt from the younger days of hanging out with the Barr's on the racetrack and growing up in the same areas. I was shocked to hear of his passing. Always a smile on his face and saying hi whenever we would be in passing. I know Jen from back in the high school days as well being she graduated with my brother.
Many thoughts and prayers to you all.
