   Howard Lee Prouse, age 91, of Mankato died peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2020.
   He was born on December 25, 1928 in Allen, NE to Harve and Clara (Berens) Prouse.  Howard graduated high School in Allen, NE in May, 1946 where he was awarded a Merit Scholarship to the University of Nebraska but instead chose to attend Wayne State College in Wayne, NE.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics and science, later earning an additional B.S. Degree at Wayne State.
   On May 20, 1953 he married Janice Marie Pehrson at Concord, NE.  They were later blessed with daughter, Lauri Ann and son, Kevin Lee.  
   Howard spent two years in the U.S. Army, 1951-1953.  In his professional career Howard taught mathematics and physical science in high schools in Randolph, NE, Lyons, NE, Wayne, NE and the campus school at Mankato State College.  In 1965 he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.  He then taught in the mathematics department at Mankato State until 1993.
   Howard and Jan resided in Mankato for over 50 years but enjoyed 23 warm winters in Arizona.  He loved golf and enjoyed 3 holes-in-one.
   Howard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice; grandson Nate of Coon Rapids, MN and grandson Dylan (Laura) of Madison, WI; several nieces and nephews.
   Howard was sadly preceded in death by his son, Kevin Lee and daughter, Lauri Ann; his parents and step-mother, Lillian; sisters, Eunice and Hazel; brothers, Raymond, Earl, and Maynard.
   A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.
