Woodland Hills Funeral Home

   Helen N. Schwanke, age 93 of Mankato, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
   Funeral services will be Friday, November 20, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Pastor Jay Dahlvang officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.
   Visitation will be on Friday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Chapter #10. If you plan on attending services please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.
   Helen Nedra was born on May 14, 1927 to Carl C. and Palma B. (Stordahl) Nelson in Butternut, Minnesota. She attended elementary and high school in Madelia, graduating in 1945. After high school she was employed as a receptionist at a doctor’s office in Madelia. On May 3, 1952 she was united in marriage to Clayton A. Schwanke at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. After their marriage they moved their family to Mankato, and when her children were older she then worked for District 77 in the food services department. She was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, and involved in church circle, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #561 in Lewisville, MN. Helen was also a life member of the DVA (Disabled American Veterans) Chapter #10 of Mankato. She enjoyed quilting, reading, flowers, crocheting, and volunteering her time at the MRCI Thrift Store in Mankato. Helen loved visiting and spending time with her family and friends.
   She is survived by her sons, Todd (Mary) Schwanke of Owatonna, Hans (Christy) Schwanke of Mankato, Roger (Wanda) Schwanke of Mankato; grandchildren, Samantha Schwanke, Sydney Schwanke, Michelle Weaver, Marissa Anderson; great- grandsons, Jacob and Cole Weaver; sister, Norma (Earl) Rydholm of Minneapolis; son-in-law, Dorwin “Andy” Anderson of North Mankato; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton; daughter, Darlene Anderson; grandson, Eric Schwanke; brothers, Warren (Ruth) Nelson, Maynard (Sue) Nelson; sisters, Irma (Orville) Wendland, Grace (Stan) Spence.
