Agnes Clara Klingel

Agnes Clara Klingel, age 97, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 15th at Birchwood Cottages in North Mankato MN.
Agnes was born Agnes Clara Engelen January 1, 1927 in Mankato MN to the late John and Anna (Solyntjes) Engelen. She was the youngest of 5 children.
Agnes grew up in Mankato, working at the Bretts department store and Mankato Citizens Telephone Company downtown Mankato.
She married Charles (Chuck) Klingel II May 9, 1953 and together they raised their 5 children on a small family farm in North Mankato. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, sewing, and was particularly talented in making loomed rugs and homemade greeting cards.
After her children were all in school, she went back into the work force. Agnes was probably best known as the welcoming smile of the Goodie Shop, selling food products and bakery goods created by the culinary students of the Mankato Vocational School, now known as South Central College in North Mankato.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, her grandson Darrin Theis, and all of her siblings and siblings-in-law.
She is survived by her 5 children: Sheila (Cliff) Theis, Dodie (Jim) Adam, Mary (Greg) Thoen, Kevin Klingel and John Klingel; 7 grandchildren: Nick (Kelly) Theis, Katie and Kelsey Klingel, Ian (Mandi) Carleton, Jane Carleton (Ben) Hart, Derik Klingel, Dobie Adam and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Theis, along with her 9 great grandchildren: Nathan, Isaac, Payton, Madyson (Tristen), Bailey, Hazen, Emma, Zander and Bowen.
All of her children were with her those several days of her passing, wishing to share what a strong woman Agnes was, and how special both parents made their childhood. They also wish to extend sincere gratitude to the staff at Birchwood Cottages, along with the Brighton Hospice nurses for the loving care Agnes received on her journey home. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and cared for her.
Agnes was a patriot, always appreciating the sacrifices made for our freedom by her brother and brothers-in-law, and all who serve along with their families. To honor this appreciation, please direct memorials to:
