Ann Ruth Fechter, 89, passed away on March 21, 2023 at New Perspectives Senior Living in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

She was born Anna Ruth Hemish, on February 23, 1934 on the family farm near Marshall, Minnesota to parents Frank and Ida (Slama) Hemish. Ann was one of eleven siblings. She graduated from Tracy, Minnesota High School in 1952. She then graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 1956 with a degree in Chemistry and Biology.

Ann began her career as a Medical Technologist in Tempe, Arizona.  While in Arizona, she met Hamed Ibrahim and they had two sons together. She returned to Minnesota in 1960, where she began a new life. She met Robert “Charlie” Fechter and they married in 1967. They lived together on Skyline and on Lake Washington until his death in 2006. She worked most of her career at Immanuel–St. Joseph’s hospital in Mankato until she retired in 1993 after working in clinical laboratories for 37 years.

Ann was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, gardening, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved entertaining family at her Lake Washington home. Throughout her life Ann’s five sisters were her best friends.

She leaves behind her son, Sirraj (Pam) Fechter of Minneapolis and three grandchildren; David (Lauren Tsuji) Fechter of Seattle, Claire (Ellis Lamb) Fechter of Minneapolis and Elizabeth (Cole Clarke) Fechter of Richfield, Minnesota. She is survived by two brothers: Franklin Hemish and Howard Hemish and one sister, Joyce Jeffery. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, son Sam and sisters Viola, Marian, Shirley and Sandy; and her brothers Gordon, Archie and George.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 502 W 7th St. Mankato, MN.
