Barbara Jean Mathes, 86, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at her home surrounded by family in Mankato, MN. Mass will be at 11am Friday June 6, 2025, at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Father Tom Melvin, officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitations will be from 4-7pm Thursday June 5, 2025 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to service at the church.
Barbara was born August 26, 1938 in Columbus, OH to Michael and Hazel (Ward) Yandrich. She grew up and attended Elementary-High-school in Ohio, graduated from Ohio State then attended Mount Caramel Hospital School for Nursing where she graduated and joined the United States Air Force where she worked as a Registered Nurse. On October 24th, 1964, she married Alvin Mathes in Columbus, OH. In June 1965, Barbara moved to Minnesota with Alvin where she worked as a Registered Nurse in Minneapolis before moving to Mankato. Barbara was a Registered Nurse at Immanuel Saint Joseph Hospital in Mankato where she retired to spend time with family and grandchildren.
Barbara raised 5 boys: Jonathan, Jeremy, Justin, Joel and Jared, (Mankato)
Grand-children: Ashley, RJ and Owen (Mankato), Austin (Hawaii), Micheyla, Alia and Ayden (Alaska)
Great Grand-Children: Jackson, Haisley (Mankato) Brenson, Brooks and Braylon (Alaska)
Barbara enjoyed: baking apple pies, arts, crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, traveling, grandkids, and volunteering. She loved attending church and her faith was strong.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her husband, Alvin R. Mathes.
