Charles “Chuck/Coop” Cooper, 79, went home to heaven peacefully surrounded by family at the Mayo Mankato Hospital on March 15, 2026. He was born on December 2, 1946, in Mankato, MN at St. Joseph’s Hospital to William “Don” D. and Hazel M. (Hake) Cooper.
Chuck graduated from high school in Mankato, MN in spring of 1964. In August of 1964, with a sense of pride and duty and following in the steps of his dad and brothers, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in July of 1965.
On August 3, 1968, he married Nancy Ann (Wussow) Cooper in North Mankato, MN. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage and resided in the home he grew up in.
Chuck had wonderful sense of humor, a gentle spirit, was hard-working and a loving husband/dad to his family. His faith and love for the Lord brought him great comfort and guided his interactions with everyone he met throughout his life. His sense of humor has touched many lives. Coop worked for the City of North Mankato in the Park Dept. for many years and then transitioned to custodian for City Hall, the Police Annex and the Taylor Library in North Mankato to finish out his career. He retired in August of 2008. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bird watching as well as being an avid card player. After retirement, Coop enjoyed coffee with the guys at McDonalds. Chuck also enjoyed trips to FL to see his family.
Chuck is survived by his loving, devoted wife Nancy, daughter, Amy (Andrew) Viker of Mankato, MN. His son Matthew (Jennifer) Cooper of Bradenton, FL. Six grandchildren: Kyle, Dawson, Mackenzie, Karson, Kailey, and Kaitlyn. One great-grandchild, Charlotte and two expected great-grandchildren (August 2026/October 2026). He is survived by sisters-in-law Doris Cooper of Missouri and Betty Cooper of Kansas, as well as many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William “Don” and Hazel, his brothers Donald, Gerald and Robert Cooper and his grandmother, Mary Harris and sister-in-law, Linda Cooper.
Cremation has taken place. Chuck will be laid to rest in Woodland Hills Cemetery in Mankato, MN. A private memorial is planned for a later date.
