Clara Louise (Emmett) Schiller

Clara Louise Schiller, age 92, of Tucson AZ and Elysian, MN died July 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. 

Clara was born February 11, 1931, in Cliquot, MO to Thomas and Mary (Garretson) Emmett.  She graduated from Argyle High School in 1949 and went on to attend Wesleyan College in Mt Pleasant, IA returning to teach in Argyle.  She was united in marriage to Leroy Schiller on July 8, 1951. They moved to Belvoir, VA where Leroy served in the military.  The couple returned to Iowa where Clara continued to teach in Lone Tree and Burlington. After moving to Mankato, MN Clara taught 5th grade at Kennedy Elementary and earned her Master’s in Elementary Education at Mankato State University. She retired from teaching in 1989.

Clara and Leroy loved to entertain; they hosted many bridge nights, faculty parties and family gatherings. They worked side-by-side to build “the cabin” and hosted many events on the deck overlooking the lake. Traveling and antique buying were favorite hobbies the couple shared. Clara’s hands were always busy with needle point, knitting, crocheting etc. They became residents of Tucson AZ and continued to host gatherings on the patio. Clara and Leroy were devoted partners in life for nearly 70 years.

Clara is survived by her children, Kevin Schiller of Elysian, MN and Lisa (Brian) Trunk of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Jeremy, Emily and Abby all of Plymouth, MN; brothers, John (Cheryll) Emmett of Ft. Madison, IA and James (Sandy) Emmett of Montrose, IA; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; sisters, Mary Margaret Swinderman, Dorothy Borger and Frances Craige; brother, Tom Emmett.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p,m, service at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel in Mankato with Pastor Dean Wolf officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date.
