David C. Wolters

David C. Wolters, 75, of Mankato, Minnesota, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on May 12, 2026, after battling colon cancer.

Born on December 1, 1950, in Mankato to Gordon Sr. and Bertha Wolters, David lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, humor, and love for his family. David attended school at Holy Rosary Elementary and Lake Crystal High School.  He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later spent many years working as a shipping clerk at Spartech Plastics.

David met Shawn Wasinger in 1972 and later were married at St. John's Catholic Church on September 6, 1974. Together they shared over 50 years of marriage, raising a family with two sons and creating countless memories with those they loved most. 

David enjoyed the simple things in life.  He was happiest riding his Harley with buddies, attending many Sturgis rallies, playing bingo at Mystic Lake,  playing cribbage, cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, and gathering with family and friends. He was witty, tough, and known for teasing those he cared about most. Though he could be gruff at times, his family lovingly described him as “an oak” — strong, steady, dependable, and always there when needed.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shawn; sons Joshua Wolters (Marion Volk) and Cory (Angie) Wolters; brothers Gordon Jr. (Janell) Wolters, Jerry (Pam) Wolters, Douglas (Rhonda) Wolters, Rodney Wolters, Brian Wolters, and Donald Wolters (Jodi Dieterman); sister Shelly (Dan) Miller; along with grandchildren Codi Leiferman, Alexandra Chatleain, Madysen (Jacob) Bristol, Myles Wolters, Cameron Wolters, Morgyn Wolters and great grandchild Declan Bristol; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Sr. and Bertha Wolters; sisters Becky Wolters and Bonnie Paulson; and brothers Cletus Wolters and Steven Wolters.   

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22nd, 2026, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church followed by a Catholic Mass honoring David’s life at 11:00, and a light luncheon to follow immediately after at Jesuit Hall.

David’s strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
