Edward “Ed” Arnold Pankratz, 77, of Mankato, died Friday, September 8, 2023 at Mayo Health System in Mankato. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, September 12 from 1-5PM at Crooked Pint Ale House, 1850 Madison Ave, Mankato, MN 56001.
Ed was born in Mountain Lake in 1946 to Jacob and Ruby (Ewy), as the oldest son he was a hard worker on the farm and had a love for cars from early on. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School, he moved to Jackson to attend vo-tech to become a mechanic, then moved to Mankato and worked at an automotive shop and car dealership before starting his career with the city of Mankato, retiring as the Deputy Director.
Ed met the love of his life, Sue, in 1968 and they married the following year. He won her over by revving up his motorcycle and the rest was history. Ed and Sue have two sons, Bryan and Curt; family has always meant everything to them. Ed will always be remembered for his smirky grin and the way he cared for his loved ones.
Ed was an avid hunter and loved to fish and golf, but his favorite role was grandpa. He cherished his time spent with Ethan and Shelby supporting their sports and activities, and in the last five years welcoming 4 great-grandchildren.
We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, dad, brother, grandpa and great grandpa, and will miss Ed every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Susan “Sue” of Mankato, MN; son, Bryan (Wanda) of Prior Lake, MN; son, Curt of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Ethan (Allie) of Prior Lake, Shelby (Brendan) Boche of Lakeville; great grandchildren, Cecelia, Clara, Sidney and June; sisters, Bernice (Jerry) Goertzen; Maxine McDonald; Marge Pankratz; Ruth Pankratz; brother, George (Khristine) Pankratz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Raymond and Harry; nephew Evan Raushel.
