Edmund "Dean" Thul

Retired Mankato teacher, Edmund “Dean” Thul, age 100, died Monday, December 18, 2023 at Madonna Towers in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral Mass is Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, Minnesota, the Reverend Father Tim Reker, Celebrant. Visitation is Friday morning for one hour prior to services at church. Interment at Woodland Hills Memorial Park will follow the funeral Mass. Dean was born March 19, 1923 to Nicholas and Veronica Thul in Vernon Center, Minnesota.  A graduate of Marshall High School, he attended Mankato State Teachers College and Northern Colorado University.  He married Mary Wiggins on June 9, 1951 in Luverne, Minnesota.  He taught English at Franklin Middle School in Mankato.  He also coached basketball and track. Dean was known for his inventions and humorous stories.  Dean and his wife were founding members of St. Joseph the Worker Church.  After he retired Dean and Mary enjoyed traveling to many destinations. 

Dean is survived by his son, Terry Thul of Rochester, Minnesota; daughter Peggy Noga (Doug) also of Rochester; two granddaughters, Marie Harris (Michael) and Laura Noga; three great-grandsons, Benjamin, Atticus, and Asher Harris, all of Rochester; sister-in-law Marlene Thul of North Mankato, Minnesota; brother-in-law Al Kimball of Folsom, California; and many nieces and nephews.  Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Thul; daughter Mary Jo Thul; two brothers, Vincent Thul and Nicholas Thul; and four sisters Marcy Doyle, Margaret Kimball, Kay Resner, and Vera Grimes.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato.
