Erik C. Rasmussen

Erik C. Rasmussen, age 82 of Mankato, passed away on Sunday. May 25, 2025 at Ecumen Pathstone in Mankato.

A Celebration of Erik’s Life will be Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted, IA. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is assisting the family with arrangements. www.woodlandhillsfh.com

Erik Christian Rasmussen passed away May 25, 2025.  He was born on January 3, 1943 Erik grew up on a farm by the Danish community known as Ringsted, IA.  He was very proud of his Danish heritage. He graduated May,1960 recognized for his Honor Society membership and his percussion skills in the Ringsted High School band among other things.  Soon after graduation he enlisted in the Navy leaving his home town October 1960.  He went to Nuclear submarine school and was assigned to Submarines the last one called Ethan Allen for 8 years leaving with an Honorable discharge, taking a civilian position with Vitro, who contracted with the Navy and was located in Maryland., as their project manager.  May 1970 he married Judi they had one daughter Angie. His position at Vitro required travel to Scotland, Guam and other places. Twenty-five years later he retired moving to Cape Canaveral, Fl with his second wife Joan. Erik joined the Optimist Club. After Joan’s death in 2010 he moved to Mankato, MN eventually taking a flower delivery position at Hilltop Florist. He enjoyed fishing, cutting wood for fireplaces, bowling, horse racing, playing cards, wine making, time with family and friends. He was known for his smile, friendliness, one liners, knowledge of trivia and the Fedora that he wore. He was preceded in death by his parents Christina and Thorvald, brother Norman, nephew John Rasmussen, Judi and Joan. 

Erik is survived by his daughter Angie husband Dave Becher, grandsons Ryan and Kevin.  Brothers Arne and wife Mary, James and wife Julie and Sister Marie and husband Bob Godferson, significant other Cathy Garvin and Cathy’s family Michael and Linda Garvin, Steve Garvin, James and Amy Garvin, Marie and Joe Long and multiple extended family.
