Ervin O. "Stubby" Roeker Obituary

Ervin O. “Stubby” Roeker, age 90 of Eagle Lake, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.  

Memorial services will be Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Jason Wolter officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.

Ervin was born on May 13, 1934 to Albert and Louise (Rudolph) Roeker in Alma City, Minnesota. He graduated from Pemberton High School. Ervin entered the U.S. Army on March 1, 1954 and served his country and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1957. On December 5, 1959 he was united in marriage to Shirley Brooks at St John’s Lutheran Church in Alma City. After their marriage Ervin and Shirley moved to Eagle Lake to raise their family. For many years he was employed by the Mankato Citizens Telephone Company as a technician, and later was a custodian at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mankato. He enjoyed reading the bible, mowing grass, tinkering on snapper lawn mowers, bird watching, camping, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran in Janesville where he was chairman for many years of the Trinity Lutheran Seniors, and enjoyed attending Sunday morning bible study. Ervin was also a member of the Sweet-Sommers VFW Post # 1642 in Waseca.

He is survived by his sons, Tom Roeker of Eagle Lake and Jerry (Diane) Roeker of Smiths Mill; Grandchildren, Sadie (Tom) Herrick, Joseph (Becky) Roeker, Cally (Derek) Handt, Tracy Adler, Robyn (Tim) Shorter, and Grace (Jaime) Roeker; great grandchildren, Thomas & Madison Herrick, Ayden & Emily Roeker, and Samuel & Matthew Adler; sister, Eunice Differding; brother-in-law, Dean (Adele) Brooks of Germany; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley in 2021; sister in infancy Deloris; sisters, Mildred (Ed), Violet (Jim); brothers, Duane, Wallace (JoAnn); brother-in-law, Adolph Differding; grandson-in-law, John Adler.
