Faye Mattison Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Faye Mattison on Thursday, May 23 after a brief illness.

Faye grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she learned to play her 12-string guitar. After a couple years at Augustana College, she moved to Mankato. This was where Faye put down roots. She loved her family of friends in her faith community. She enjoyed the city’s sunny days and walks in the park. She never forgot a birthday and was the best small treasure hunter for her grand nieces and nephews. Faye was talented and dedicated to polishing her creative writing skills. Her mom, Delpha would be proud. It always gave us joy to read her notes. She looked forward to book club discussions and the opportunity to expand her thinking; always a fun conversationalist.

A sincere thank you to the talents, dedication and compassion of the Mayo Mankato hospital staff. They worked tirelessly on her behalf.

She is survived by two sisters Lee Ann Mattison (Glen Monzo) and Kristi Schmidley (William); nieces and nephews Camryn Monzo, Ellen Monzo, William Schmidley IV(Molly), Allison Rendon (Antonio), Scott Schmidley (Patrick Witt), Chris Hage (Katlin Schneider) and Liz Hage (Greg Noethlich)  . Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Delpha Mattison; brother Daniel and sister-in-law Cathi Mattison.

Faye’s celebration of life will be at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato on Wednesday, June 5. Viewing at 10 am. Service at 11 o’clock followed by a luncheon. She’ll be buried in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date.

If you are moved to do so, donations on Faye’s behalf can be made to ECHO Food Shelf, echofoodshelf.org/donate/. Look for an icon in the upper right corner of the web page.
