  Frank A. Groenke, age 94 of Mankato, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Water’s Edge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mankato.

  Private graveside services will be held. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is assisting the family with arrangements.

  Frank Albert was born on August 20, 1927 to John Herman and Erna Charlotte (Hildebrandt) Groenke in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Concordia High School in River Forest, Ill., and furthered his education at Concordia College in Seward, NE, and Boyles Business College in Omaha, NE. Frank enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 and served his country in the 11th Airborne Division until his honorable discharge in 1947. On August 25, 1948 Frank married Revertta Reinke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. He was employed for 38 years as an agent/telegrapher for Chicago Northwestern Railroad Company. He enjoyed square dancing, golfing, traveling, and playing the piano. Frank was a long time member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, and American Legion Post #11 in Mankato.

  He is survived by his children, Douglas (Shelly) Groenke, Diane (Michael) Hanly, Donna (Gene) Birr, all of Mankato; grandchildren, Erin (Joel) Jacobson, Brent and Cody Groenke, Kevin (Megan) Hanly, Tiffaney (Joe) Wagner, Jenna and Justin Birr; great-grandchildren, Haley and Jonah Jacobson, Tilyr and David Hanly, Jaiden Lutter Danielson, Jack Wagner; sister, Kay Sime of Monticello; by many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Revertta in 2016; grandson, Paul Hanly; 2 brothers; 6 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law.
