Helen Getskow Obituary

Helen N. Getskow age 86 of St. Peter, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Benedictine Senior Living in St. Peter, Minnesota.

A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2 P.M. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery in New Richland.

Helen (Wysong) Getskow, born April 28, 1937 to Alvin and Pansie Schenk in Mankato, MN. Helen graduated from Winnebago High School in 1955 and attended Winona Commercial College. She married Allen Wysong on February 23, 1957. They were blessed with four daughters: Judith, Janiece, Jean, and Jolene. Allen passed away on July 14, 1975. Helen worked at Audio Development Corporation in St. Peter for 12 years and Ampex Corporation in Colorado Springs for two years. She was a school bus driver for St. Peter Schools for six years. Helen married Stanley Getskow in 1982 and drove school bus for New Richland Schools for 16 years. She retired in 1999 and became an Arizona Snowbird for 14 years, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, and summers in Minnesota. She enjoyed making chocolate candy for 33 years, giving it up when her health became a challenge. She was active in her local church and the Lion’s Club. Stanley passed away on July 14, 2016. Helen moved to St. Peter where she lived until her death.

She is survived by three of her four daughters: Judith (Don) Brightwell of Cañon City, Colorado; Jean Wysong of Mankato; and Jolene (Tim) Westphal of Cleveland, Minnesota; two grandchildren—Jessica Wysong of Mankato and Nathan (Kristy) Hale also of Mankato; two great-grandchildren—Autumn Jo and Corbin Stanley Hale of Mankato. In addition, she is survived by two sisters—Sally Ann Dudycha of Des Moines, Iowa; and Marion Mathwig of Skiatook, Oklahoma; four stepchildren; Karen (David) Lundberg of Lubbock, Texas; Jeffrey (Susie) Getskow of Phoenix, Arizona; David (Lori) Getskow of Becker, Minnesota; and Tom (Penny) Getskow of Mary Esther, Florida; several step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Allen Wysong and Stanley Getskow, son David Twedt, daughter Janiece Barnes, and three brothers Henry and Raymond Schenk, and John Gardner. She leaves a legacy of a life well-lived by one who was well-loved by family and friends.
