Joanne Dalton - Genz

Joanne Dalton – Genz passed away July 30, 2022 one day shy of her 91st birthday.  Joanne was born on July 31, 1931 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Aage and Mildred Jacobson.   Joanne attended Central High School in Minneapolis and graduated in the class of 1949.  She became engaged with her high school sweetheart, James Thornton Dalton, whom attended Saint Thomas Academy.  They celebrated 33 years of marriage. 

Joanne and James Dalton started their life together in South Bend, Indiana as James attended the University of Notre Dame.  Joanne and James moved to Mankato, Minnesota and started their family of eight children, seven daughters and one son. 

Minnesota was her home; she loved living at the lake.  Her interests were gardening, family events, and luncheons with her bridge club.  As a young girl she spent time in Finlayson, Minnesota with her grandparents, Albert and Anna Anderson.  Joanne was a homecoming attendant in her class at Central High School, a model for Dayton – Hudson, a medical assistant but mostly a devoted wife and mother. 

Joanne is survived by eight children, Cynthia (Dave) Florine, Suzanne Dalton, Judith Kennedy, Elizabeth Clark, Nancy Swart, James Dalton II, Jo Jo Dalton, and Molly Dalton.  Joanne leaves behind a legacy of fourteen grandchildren, John Swart, Christopher Burton, Courtney (Quinten) Hansen, Heather Clark, Joseph Dalton, Timothy Wright, James and Michael Dienes, William (Maia) Callanan, Matthew (Mix) Kennedy, Sean Kennedy, Molly (Andrew) Kimber; nine great grandchildren, Julian, Piper, Hazel, Samson, Oliver, Audrey, Jack, Finn, and Willow; along with many loved nieces, nephews, extended family, friends as well as the family of her late husband, Carl Genz.

Joanne was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Swart; her husbands, James Dalton and Carl Genz; brother, Donald Jacobson; parents, and in-laws, La Rose and James Dalton. 

Our loving sweet mother will be forever missed.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1030am Friday August 12, 2022 at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato.  Visitation will be held from 10am until time of the services at the church.  Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery.
