Judith A. Backstrom, age 88, of North Mankato, MN died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Woodland Hills Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Judy was born November 24, 1934 in Bricelyn, MN to Carl and Olina (Eilertson) Gudal. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1952 and received a teaching degree from Mankato Teachers College. In August 1956 she was united in marriage to her high school classmate and sweetheart Floyd Backstrom in Fairmont. They lived in Lake Crystal for a short time where she taught at Lake Crystal Elementary. After moving to North Mankato and raising her family, she went to work for Carlson Craft. Judy liked reading, word search puzzles, traveling with Floyd by motorcycle, shopping, dining out, and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and EAA. Judy was an extremely positive and happy person right up to her passing.
Judy is survived by her 4 children, Kimberly (Nicholas) Miller of Mankato, MN, Jay Backstrom of North Mankato, MN, Brent (Michelle) Backstrom of Lakeville, MN, Jan (Jennie) Backstrom of Turlock, CA; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law; Lois and Bernie Mens, Richard Ashpole, Helen Nelsen, LeeAnn Backstrom; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, two sisters, and husband, Floyd.
Judy’s family would like to thank the Freedom Home Care Team for the wonderful care and companionship they gave Judy over the past two and a half years.
