Karen Emma Slipy

Karen Emma Slipy, 84, of Mankato, passed away peacefully in her home on November 19, 2025, surrounded by family.

Karen was born on January 31, 1941 in Winona, Minnesota, to Leo and Emma (Lang) Kilian. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1959. Karen dedicated more than 31 years of her life to Carlson Craft, where she formed lasting friendships and took pride in her work. Beyond her career, she was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life.

Karen had a passion for flower pot gardening, and she loved creating silk flower arrangements. She also enjoyed collecting Fenton art glass, cherishing both its beauty and the stories behind each piece. Her strong faith guided her throughout her life. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and deeply valued her time in Bible study and fellowship.

Karen is survived by her children, Tim Slipy, Jeff Slipy, and Kris (Jay) Schaus; her grandchildren, Kyle Slipy and Emily (Daniel Kuderer) Schaus; her great-granddaughter, Sloane Altenhofen and a great-grandson on the way. Her sister, Linda (Ken) Groth, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marilyn Barnard; brother, Steve Kilian; sister-in-law, Janet Kilian and brother-in-law Bud Barnard.

A private funeral service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Barnard Cemetery in Good Thunder.

Karen will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith leave a legacy that will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
