On Thursday August 10th Loretta Mae Freitag age 92 of Mankato passed away peacefully at her home, happy to see her Lord and Savior. Loretta was born on September 7th, 1930, in Echo Mn, on a farm to Edgar and Fern (Beadell) Bendix, the middle child of 13. After 7th grade she stayed home to help out with the family. She lived in various areas in Mn, one being Morton where she met her husband, Charles Freitag. They were married on Jan 1, 1949, at Rapidan Lutheran Church. They settled in Mankato where she worked as a waitress at Mikes Café and Shari Candies packaging. After raising her 5 children she did daycare. During the summers she worked at the Green Giant Corn Plant. She worked her way up quickly and earned the head machine position, earning more money to enjoy many vacations traveling with her husband and extended family. She was a very caring, thoughtful, and generous wife and mother, to her family and anyone she met. Reading her Bible daily and attending church was very important to her as she was very strong in her faith and wanted others to know the Lord. She truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and visiting family, playing cards, doing puzzles and an occasional glass of wine with family and friends.
The visitation will be Tuesday evening August 15th from 5:00-8:00pm at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato. On Wednesday August 16th a visitation will be held at 10:00 am and service to follow at 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in North Mankato.
She is survived by her children Sharon Soost, Randy Freitag, Maxine Anderson (Ed Barron), Jim Freitag (Lynn Howley), Ann (Dean) Evans, 15 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. Brothers Merlyn Bendix (Betty), Leland Bendix (Laurel). Sisters Faye Shiell, Betty Ann Richert, Joyce Wolf (Dale), Diane Rivera (Richard) sister in laws Carol Bendix and Midge Bendix, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; grandson, Jerimiah Bates; brothers Leroy, Charles, Vernon, and Richard; sisters Madonna, and Violet.
