Lyle R. Schulte, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 71. Born at Ida Grove Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, on January 20, 1954, Lyle was the beloved son of Leo and Rita (Taphorn) Schulte. He was baptized on January 28, 1954, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, Iowa.
Lyle was a proud graduate of Odebolt Arthur Catholic High School in 1972. At just 18 years old, he purchased the Odebolt Meat Locker. He dedicated 17 years to running the shop & serving his community. During this time, he was an active member of the Rotary Club and furthered his education at Briggs and Stratton College in Wisconsin. Alongside his work in the meat industry, he had a passion for small engine repairs, leasing lawnmowers in the summer and snowblowers in the winter.
On June 21, 1981, Lyle married the love of his life, Darlyce (Reed) Schulte. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. In July 1982, they welcomed their son, James R. Schulte, who would become one of Lyle’s greatest joys.
In 1983, Lyle and his family moved to Mankato, Minnesota, where he continued his career as the Meat Market Manager at Hy-Vee No. 1 West and later as the Frozen Food Manager at Hilltop Hy-Vee No. 2. After years of dedication and hard work, he retired at the age of 58.
Lyle was a social and outgoing man who found joy in the company of family and friends. Whether camping, fishing, golfing, or coaching Hy-Vee’s softball team. He had a love for bowling, making fishing lures, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, but nothing brought him more happiness than attending his son’s sporting events.
Lyle leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever. He is survived by his wife, Darlyce; his son, James (Ericka Powell); and his five beloved grandchildren: Rylen, Easton, Cora, Daxton, and Penelope Schulte, all of Mankato, MN. He is also survived by his brother, Larry (Dianne) Schulte of Odebolt, IA; his sister, Linda (Norm) Seeden of Storm Lake, IA; Nieces: Kristin (Sherwin) Kulch of Keystone, IA. Tiffany (Darin) Mohr of Odebolt, IA. Nephew: Klint (Ashley) Schulte of Odebolt, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Rita; his infant twin sisters, Rita and Ruth; and his sister, Lavon Schulte.
Lyle will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will remain forever.
A private family celebration and scattering of Lyle's ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Lyle by sharing a story, a laugh, or a fishing trip in his memory.
