Marcia Lou Baer, 86, Mankato, died Wednesday June 19, 2024 at North Pointe in North Mankato. Memorial Services will be held at 1130am Saturday June 29 at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel with vitiation one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. woodlandhillsfh.com
Marcia was born January 27, 1938 in Wichita, KS and raised by her parents Carl Hill and Ardith Jones. Later in life, Marcia reconnected with biological mother Sadie Ann Becker which brought her much happiness.
Marcia founded the Home Magazine in 1971, which served 33 communities in southern Minnesota. In the early 80s, Marcia pursued several entrepreneurial ventures before finishing the last 15 years of her career as Editor of the Alumni publication "Today" at Mankato State University.
Marcia held a bachelor’s of art in Art. In October of 1988 she was united in marriage to James Baer in Mankato.
Marcia was an avid reader who also enjoyed sewing and building miniatures. She was the lead researcher and editor of the publication "Those Barracks Babies". She loved to travel and paint. She had a fondness for trains and was a huge cat lover. In 1989 she was voted Mankato Riverbend Queen and represented Mankato at town parades in Minnesota throughout the next year. Marcia was always dressed to the 9's be it wearing a stylish hat (preferably red or purple) and her ever present Dooney & Bourke purses.
Marcia is survived by sons, Aaron (Michele Sickels) Coonce of Stillwater and Zachariah (Stephanie Sheehan) Coonce of Austin, TX; step daughter, Christine (Tony Jones) Marben of North Mankato; step sons, Paul (Amy) Baer of Madison Lake and Tom (Kim Mack) Baer of Bloomington; grandchildren, Evan (Anna Stalka) Coonce and Emma Coonce; step grandchildren, Josie (J’Allen Naklen) Marben, Joshua (Kelsey Goettl) Marben, Kyle (Kayla) Baer, and Ryan (Emma Brandt) Baer,
She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, James Baer.
