Obituary

Mark Spangler 59, died January 24, 2023 at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis.  Memorial services will be held at 11am Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato.  Visitation will be from 5- 8pm Friday February 10 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and half hour prior to the services at the church.  woodlandhillsfh.com

Mark was born June 30, 1963 at the University of Iowa in Iowa City to Dale and Arlene (Ober) Spangler.  He attended Eagle Grove and Webster City Schools in Iowa and then went on to MSU Mankato and graduated Ceum Laude in 2003.  Mark was united in marriage to Terry Corporon on May 23, 1992 Mason City, Iowa.  Growing up he worked at the Princess Theater in Eagle Grove and at the Webster City Golf Course. He did landscaping in Arizona and then returning to Iowa worked for All Star .  In his early 20’s he became a radio announcer at KQWC AM/FM and KRIT FM KLSS-KRIB FM/AM Mason City KEEZ FM Mankato for 18 years.  Mark also was the announcer  for the Moondogs and Laker baseball. Later he worked as a Paraprofessional for special needs children and Mankato West until his retirement in 2021.  In his free time he enjoyed writing short stories and poems, painting, golfing, riding bike, fishing, coaching baseball for MAYBA, watching his son participate and coach sports, spending time with family and friends and his dog, Mya.  Mark was a board member and past president MSEA and was active in the Exchange Club in the 90’s, was a member of VINE, taught chess club and was a member of the United Universalist Church in Mankato. 

He is survived by wife, Terry of Mankato; son, Garrison of Iowa Falls, IA; fur baby, Mya; mother in-law Norma (Merlin) Meyer of Bartow, FL; brother in – law Todd (Laurie) Corporon of Buffalo Center, IA; step brother in-law, Randy (Deb) Meyer of Sheffield, IA; step sister in- law, Julie Dannen of Mason City, IA; brothers, Wes Spangler, Kevin Spangler, and Steven Spangler; sister, Luana (Jon) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. 

Mark is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and father in-law , Marvin L . Corporon.
