Nelly Jane Beverly Masica, age 90 of Mankato, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

A Celebration of Nelly Jane’s Life will be on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11 A.M. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Pastor John Petersen officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato at a later date.

Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is assisting the family with arrangements. woodlandhillsfh.com

Nelly Jane was born on February 18, 1932, to Martin and Hilda (Braaten) Barsness in Glenwood, Minnesota. She graduated from Glenwood High School then worked for an insurance company in Minneapolis. On December 12, 1953, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Masica at Barsness Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Minnesota. Throughout their married life they lived in Minneapolis, Heron Lake and Lake Crystal before settling in lower North Mankato through retirement. Nelly Jane loved her Lord and lived her life with humility and grace. She was a wonderful and loving mother and homemaker and at times worked outside the home.  She was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #518 Ladies Auxiliary of North Mankato where she was the poppy chairwoman and spent countless hours with a smile, offering poppies and taking donations for the Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, bowling, gardening, helping with fundraisers, playing bingo and tending to her indoor plants. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir in Heron Lake.

She is survived by her children, Beverly (Larry) Frodermann of Heron Lake, Vicky Sagehorn of Fairmont, Michael (Sheila) Masica of Reedsburg, WI, Lori Lauseng of Northfield; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Frodermann, Jeffrey (Suzie) Frodermann, Brian (Betsy) Frodermann, Hilary Masica, Alex Masica, Tori Lauseng, Trevor Lauseng; ten great-grandchildren; step-granddaughter Amy (Doug) Lago; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband, William in 2010; infant daughter, Mary Beth; Brothers and Sisters, Marvel (Jeannie) Barsness, Norris (Maleta) Barsness, Raymond Barsness, Grace (Rudy) Gandrud; and sister Mavis in infancy; son-in-law, Larry Sagehorn.
