Born October 23, 1935, Dick grew up on a farm east of New Rockford, ND, where he was raised by his parents Lawrence and Helen (Wipperling) Dungan.  He attended Columbia High School through the 8th grade and then finished his high school education at Grace City High School.

Dick was very active in 4-H during his youth and earned the title of the State Champion in sheep shearing.  This was an honor he was always proud of.  After graduating from high school, Dick attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for one year.

Dick married Karen Adams in 1960 and moved to New Rockford, ND, where he worked at Adams Furniture.  He also sheared sheep for area farmers.  While in New Rockford, Dick was involved in many civic organizations, including Jaycess, Kiwanis, and Elks.  He was also active in the United Methodist Church, the New Rockford Flying Club, and the Cub and Boy Scout organizations.

After leaving New Rockford, Dick and Karen lived in Pierre, SD for 20 years.  They later moved to Mankato, MN where they lived for the past 12 years.

His many interests included hunting, fishing, photography, old cars, traveling and visiting with people.  Of all his hobbies, Dick’s favorite thing to do was to go fishing with his three sons.

Dick is survived by Karen, his wife of 62 years; sons, Jeff (Kim) of Oak Park, Ill, John (JoDee) of Cavalier, ND and Jim (Michelle) of Mankato, MN; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and sister, Conni Fugleberg of Harvey ND.
