Ricky Abernathy

Ricky Abernathy “Rick” 57 of Mankato, MN gained his wings on Monday November 14th 2022 at his home in Mankato, Mn.  A Celebration of Rick’s life will be from 1-5p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Mully’s on Madison in Mankato.

Rick was born May 3rd 1965 to Aurthur and Kathryn (Spence) Honetshlager in St. Paul, Mn.  He graduated from Mankato East High School in 1983.  Shortly after high school he met Sherry Ford and they welcomed their daughter Jessica Abernathy in 1991.

Rick was a family man. He was devoted to his daughter, Jessica Abernathy and his 3 grandchildren, and his significant other Pamela Jacobsen.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, and their puppy coco, He enjoyed watching the Vikings Football games, being outdoors and going on nature walks with his grandchildren and teaching them how to work on cars and building things with them in his garage. He really enjoyed being around friends, having fires, and cracking jokes.  Rick was always offering a helping hand to others no matter what he had going on. He was truly an enjoyable and caring person all around and loved to make people laugh. 

Rick worked at Sheri Candies and Mankato Packing for many years; he also worked at Johnson Outdoors for a little over a year.

Rick is survived by his daughter Jessica Abernathy and her children Kaiden Abernathy, Braelyn Abernathy and Greyson Abernathy (Mankato); his sister Jackie Hoppe of Maud TX and his 2 brothers Joel Abernathy  (his wife Marie Abernathy) of Utah and Rodney Honetschlager of Mankato; his half siblings, nieces; Kelly Proctor of  (Hoppe)  Katie Kraayenbrink (Honetschlager) of South Dakota ,and Jackie Abernathy of Utah; nephews; David Hoppe of Mankato, Michael Abernathy of Utah and Peter Honetschlager of South Dakota; aunts uncles, and cousins.  Family Friends Sherry Ford of Mankato and Mark Hoppe of Mankato. 

Rick was preceded in death by his mother Kathryn (Spence) father Aruthur Honetshlager and his significant other Pamela Jacobsen.
