Robert Lee Fischer

Robert Lee Fischer, age 93, longtime resident of Skyline, died Monday, November 22, 2021 at his home with family.  Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato with Rev. Dennis Heiden officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Korean War Veterans Association.

Robert was born July 1, 1928 in Mankato, MN to Adam and Clara (Hanel) Fischer. He served in the US Army from November 29, 1950 to October 1, 1952. He earned several commendations including a Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star and United Nations Service Medal. After the service he attended Mankato State Teachers College and went on to work as an accountant for Pittsburg Pipe until moving back to Mankato to take care of his mother.  

Robert was a postal clerk at the Mankato Post Office for many years where he met his wife, Ann.  He married Elizabeth Ann Vanderhoof November 18, 1968 in Madison, South Dakota. When Bob wasn’t working he liked to garden and keep his yard looking perfect as well as keeping the critters well fed. He was also a member of the Skyline Fire Department for many years and when he quit he was the oldest fire fighter in the state.

Robert is survived by his children; Don (Donna) Vanderhoof of Mankato, Kelcey Kilen of Las Vegas, NV, Robert (Lisa Folsom) Vanderhoof of North Mankato; grandchildren, Emily (Torrey), Valerie (Brian), Daniel (Callie), Laura (Jerry), Spencer, Trent, Thomas, Theresa and Howard; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother, LeRoy Fischer of Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann and brothers Herb and Dave.
