Newell Ronald “Ron” Peterson, 85, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025 at MCHS - Mankato.
Ron was born December 26, 1939 to Newell and Cel (Juberian) Peterson in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School class of 1957. He served in the Marines as a ‘Devil Dog’ from April 1958 to March 1962 and then the reserves until 1964 and was always very proud of his service. Ron was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Fraser on September 3, 1961 in Mankato, the two later divorced. He worked at Mankato State University in the Athletic Department for decades. Ron was a very loving father and enjoyed family, baseball (playing and coaching), basketball and golf.
He is survived by children, Perry (Val) of Mankato, Tim of Mankato, Amy (Ben) Dose of Burnsville, Jeremy of Rosemount; brother, John (Sally) Peterson of Mankato; sister, Joni (Tom) Bode of Mankato; sibling in-laws, Barb (Har) Peterson, Marilynn (Tom) Peterson, Lowell (Judy) Hancuh; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, in-laws and lots of nieces and nephews.
Ron is preceded in death by son, Randy; parents; and siblings, Har, Tom, Judy, and Rich (Betty).
Memorial services will be held at 11am Saturday May 30, 2026 at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held a half hour prior to the services Interment will be held at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
