Ruth Marie Prunty, 94, was born into eternal life on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato, Minnesota after a long and fruitful life.
She was born on March 1, 1927, to Francis Patrick (FP) and Victoria Josephine (Schmit) Prunty at their home outside Andover, South Dakota. Delivered by her father, she was the 6th of 16 children. Ruth attended a one room country school through 8th grade and graduated from Andover High School in 1944. She attended Northern State Teachers College the summer after graduation in order to teach in a rural school in South Dakota. She continued attending summer schools earning a two-year certificate and finally her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Montana, Minnesota and ultimately in Colorado in the Denver School District for 40 years. She earned a Masters of Arts plus additional hours from the University of Northern Colorado. After retirement she volunteered for 15 years at the Denver Museum of Natural History. She touched the lives of many children including her siblings whom she helped financially through college. Ruth traveled extensively visiting Hawaii, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Ireland twice---the Holy Land and Athens, Greece, Peru, and a cruise down the Amazon River in South America. In 2001, Ruth moved to Mankato, Minnesota to be closer to
relatives.
Ruth is survived by three brothers: Gene, Bristol, SD; Clarence, San Diego, CA; Bill (Betty), Salinas, CA; Four sisters: Marian (Bob) Grode, Bristol, SD; Sister Patricia Prunty, Sioux Falls, SD; Dorothy (John) Meier, Normal, IL; and Terri (Darell) Evers, Mankato, MN, 61 nieces and nephews, 116 grandnieces and nephews and 27 great-grandnieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Robert, Edward, and Tom; five sisters: Mary Prunty, Marge Wing, Evelyn Overas, Cecelia Heinen Jurgens, and Elizabeth Grode Gollnick; five nephews, one niece, three grandnephews and five grandnieces.
The funeral will be held on November 13th, 2021, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton with burial at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Andover, South Dakota.
