Sarah Hewitt

Sarah Louise Hewitt, 81, Mankato, died November 28, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.  A Visitation will be from 10-11am Saturday July 27, 2024 at Woodland Hills Funeral Home followed by graveside service at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.  . A Celebration of Life for Sarah and her sister in-law, Georgine Hewitt Hansen, will be at 1130am Saturday. July 27 at Sibley Park Pavilion.   In lieu of flowers, please support the Alzheimer’s Association in Sarah’s name.

Sarah was born January 24, 1942 to Milton and Elaine Simmons in Mankato.  She graduated from Mankato High School class of 1960.  Sarah and Edwin Hewitt were married in 1961, together raising three children.  She was a kind, compassionate, and dedicated wife and matriarch.  Life took the Hewitt family to Salina, KS in 1972.  Sarah worked in various positions, and spent many years at Tony’s Pizza in Salina and then at Taylor Corp upon returning to Mankato. 

Her free spirt and quirky sense of humor made her a beloved and involved grandma to her grandsons.  Sarah enjoyed spending time with her family, being outdoors, long walks with the family pets, gardening, and complicated crossword puzzles.  She also enjoyed exploring the history and culture of cities she visited, and sipping on A Perfect Margarita.  Sarah was a member of First Christian Church in both Mankato and Salina. 

She is survived by husband of 62 years, Edwin H. Hewitt; children, Lori Frederick of Milwaukee, WI, Jeffrey (Diane) Hewitt of Marietta, GA, and Sherry (Michael) Ahrenholtz of Shawnee, KS; grandsons, Joshua Frederick, Thomas Frederick (fiancée Molly Collins), Ethan (Raegen) Ahrenholtz and Harry Ahrenholtz; siblings, Milton (Diane) Simmons of Mechanicsville, MD, Elizabeth Simmons (Mark Ragan) of Edgewater, MD, and William Simmons of Janesville, MN; and many other family members and friends. 

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Elaine Simmons and her parent in-laws, Robert and Ruth Hewitt.
