Scott Swanson Obituary

Scott Dale Swanson, age 62, of Nicollet, MN, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Rochester - St. Mary’s campus, surrounded by his family. He spent his last years fighting esophageal and bone cancer.

Scott was born on September 29, 1963 to Dale and Corinne Swanson in Faribault, MN. After graduating from Hayfield High School, he attended Albert Lea Area Vocational Technical Institute where he received an Associate’s degree in electrical contracting. Shortly afterwards, he received his license for Master Electrician. He then moved to Dallas, Texas, where he met his future wife. Scott married Molly Sumlin on May 17, 1987, and they shared almost 39 years together, as well as three daughters.

Scott and Molly moved back to Minnesota shortly after their oldest daughter was born. He proudly owned and operated Able Electric from 1991-2024. He built a large customer base in Nicollet, St. Peter, New Ulm, North Mankato, and Mankato.

Always a car enthusiast, he spent many years racing dirt track stock cars at both Arlington Raceway and Fairmont Raceway. He also enjoyed wrenching on anything his friends were working on, from dirt bikes to demo derby cars. He was happiest when he was camping with family, friends, and dogs, listening to music with a Captain Diet Coke in his hand. He loved dogs more than most people, so much so that one of his last sentiments was about looking forward to seeing all his dogs in heaven. He said, “I’ve got about ten dogs waiting for me.”

He will be remembered by his wife, Molly; his daughters, Krista (Xac) Dinsmore of North Mankato; Amanda (Jade) Gleiter of Mankato; and Jessica Swanson of Nicollet; his granddaughters, Sophia and Elizabeth Dinsmore; his mother, Corinne Swanson; and his siblings, Jeff (Traci) Swanson, Dan (Hillary) Swanson, and Cindy (Wes) Otremba.

He is preceded in death by his father, Dale Swanson, and his uncle, David Swanson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato. His family requests that guests drive their fastest, coolest cars in memory of him. Following the visitation, the Celebration of Life will continue in Nicollet at his home where we will raise a glass to him.

Before his passing, Scott was planning his own Celebration of Life for the 4th of July weekend at his property near Nevis, MN. His family and friends will honor this and continue celebrating him at that time.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in Scott’s name. Arrangements by Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato. www.woodlandhillsfh.com
