Shirley Elg Obituary

Shirley Elg of Mankato passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, surrounded by family. Shirley Ann Berndt True was born on March 24, 1939, in Fairmont, Minnesota to Albert “Tux” and Helen True. She was the office manager and retired from United Way. She volunteered for many years at the Salvation Army and MRCI Thrift Store.

She married Page Zempel in 1957, he passed in 1989. She married Jim Elg in 1998, he passed in 2013.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona and summers at Old Wagon Campground near Paynesville, spending time with family and friends, dancing and playing any board games.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 18, 1:00 p.m., Memorial Service 2:00 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. Celebration of Life at 3:00 at the Eagles Club.

Shirley is survived by children Laurie Zempel Forsythe, Jay Zempel, Carrie Zempel, sister Koleen Rosenberg, sister-in-laws Dolores Simmons, Lucile Lutz, grandchildren Kayla Forsythe, Andrea Forsythe, Courtney Forsythe, Justin Bok, Jason (Erin) Zempel, Nicole (Levi) Lauber and 6 great-grandchildren.
