Stephen “Steph” Gurney, age 76 of North Mankato died Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Pathstone Living in Mankato. Interment with military honors will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14 at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will follow from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home.
Steph was born December 22, 1947 in Palatka, Fl to Edgar and Elizabeth (Brech) Gurney. After high school he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Analysis. September 4, 1966, he married Linda Sue Brunick in Gayville, SD. Steph was in the US Navy from 1969-1975 serving in Vietnam. He liked to fish, go camping, reading and a good game of cribbage. Most of all he loved his family and giving back to the community. Steph was a proud member of the Mankato Sunrise Lions Club.
He is survived by his son, Reese (Bernadette) Gurney of Oceanside, CA; daughter, Sara (Brian) Long of North Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Tony (Erin) Perry, Rebecca (Matthew) Cope, Hudson Long and Scout Long; two very special honorary daughters, Tianka Pharaoh and Jeri Kay Coleman; brother, Doug (Lynn) Gurney of Yankton, SD; sisters, Linda (Mike) Gilles of Vancouver, WA, Marcia Gurney of Menomonee, WI, Sandy (Phil) Spanos of Mitchell, SD; nieces and nephews, Amy Jo, Michael, Mandy, Cody, Alicia, Brook, Christie, Heather, Nate, Amy, Tyler, Josh, Micha, and Zach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, parents, Edgar and Elizabeth Gurney; brothers, Dennis, John, and Terrance Gurney; in-laws, Orville and Janice Brunick.
