Tyler Schmitz Obituary

Tyler James Schmitz (18) was such a sweet boy born to Jennifer Stratton and Nathan Schmitz on June 2, 2005 in Watertown, SD. The family moved to Mankato in time for Tyler to start kindergarten. We had eighteen wonderful and all too short years loving Tyler. He was truly the sparkle in the lives of so many; everyone Loved Tyler. Growing up, Tyler had big dreams and told us he was shooting for the stars. He loved science, snowboarding, mountain biking, and most of all he loved his family.

On Tuesday October 17, 2023 he had stopped to visit his mom, as he always did on Tuesdays. It was such a nice conversation. Tyler was sharing his excitement of reaching the halfway mark to his first semester at college. He had plans of becoming an astrophysicist and we were visiting on various pathways to make that happen.

Tyler left to drive up to his father’s and not more than 10 minutes later he was gone. Tyler died in a motorcycle accident just outside of Eagle Lake, MN.

Tyler is survived by his parents Jennifer Stratton of Eagle Lake and Nathan Schmitz of Farmington. His younger sister Alisha Davis of Eagle Lake and younger brother Christopher Davis of Eagle Lake. His grandparents Jim Hickey and Terri Stratton-Hickey of St. Peter; Gary and Doris Schmitz of Farmington.
