Vernon Radel

Vernon Raymond Radel, 90, Mankato, died peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2023.  Memorial services will be held at 11am Friday October 20, 2023 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation at 10am.  Military Honors at the church after the service and the luncheon to follow. Burial at Woodland Hills.

Vernon was born December 24, 1932 to Carl & Mollie (Kiecker) Radel in Wabasso, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Waterbury Lutheran Church. After high school, Vernon attended St Paul Ag school and MN State University before entering military service.  He served 8 years in the Navy (radar) and 4 years in the Air Force (Flight Simulator). Vernon married Audrey Gronholz on August 29,1959 at Waterbury Lutheran Church in Wabasso. From this marriage,3 children were born- Dwight, Susan and Douglas.

Vernon was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, North Mankato American Legion 518(46 years) and Color Guard, VFW 950, Memorial Squad, Forty & Eight Voiture Local 281 & North Mankato Horseshoe and Bowling Leagues. Vern enjoyed hunting, golf, fishing, Twins, Vikings & sports.

Vernon is survived by his wife Audrey Radel: grandchildren Matthew, Ryan, and Joshua (Alaina) Schmidt: and great grandchildren Jase, Jordan, Remi, and Miles; sisters & brothers -in-law: Marge Rengstorf, Dennis Gronholz, Joyce (Roger) Schaffran, Rolland (Sharon) Gronholz, and Carol Gronholz. And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vernon is preceded in death by daughter, Susan Schmidt; sons, Dwight and Douglas Radel; his parents; siblings: brothers, Warren (Shirley), Kenneth, & Reuben, and sister Marian Wollin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick Rengstorf, Janice Gronholz, Joann & Harlan Boushek, Robert Gronholz, and Donald and Marlene Gronholz; parents-in-law, Herbert & Evelyn Gronholz.
