Bernard “Bernie” Lindberg, age 62, passed away Monday May 4, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.

Bernie was born January 22, 1958 to Carl and La Donna (Keech) Lindberg in Madelia, MN.  He attended Mankato State University for a little over 2 years before his severe asthma forced him to stop attending.  He was majoring in political science.

He worked as a crossing guard on the corner of Byron and Pleasant streets, where he would hand out tootsie rolls and dumb dumb suckers.  Bernie worked part time for Blue Earth County Environmental services at the household hazardous waste facility, until his health forced him to early retirement.

Bernie is survived by his sister, Colleen Lindberg of Mankato; Cousin (honorary sister) Linda Bock, Florence Keech and family of Madelia, special cousin Chauntay and Zac Carlson and family of Lake Crystal; Marvin and Annie Keech and family, Arden and Peggy Keech and family of Madelia, cousin Bradly Keech of New York; honorary nephew, Martin and Liticia Douglas and family of Chaska; Best friends, Keith King and his mom Carol of Austin, MN, Vicar Paul Rider of Norwich, England.

He was preceded in death by his parents; much beloved grandmother, Mabel Keech; honorary big brother, Kurt Keech; cousin and honorary little brother, Tommy Keech; cousin Doug Keech; and all 15 aunts and uncles, including his namesake, Bernard C. Keech and his wife Rosemary of Madelia.

A celebration of Bernie will be at a later date at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mankato at the corners of Broad St. and Warren St. when everyone can be safe.

Bernie lived his life to the Monty Python song “Look on the bright side of life”.
