Mary Ellen "Ellie" Tschida, age 64, passed away peacefully at her cabin on Duck Lake, on Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Ellie was born in Little Falls Minnesota on September 21, 1949 to Marcella and Herbert Leeb. This, according to her mother, was a beautiful, balmy perfect day with a trace of crispness in the air. Through high school, she lived on the family dairy farm. She graduated from high school in Pierz Minnesota in 1967 and that Fall enrolled in the nursing program in Brainerd, Minnesota from which she graduated in 1968.  She followed this with a 39-year career in nursing working in hospitals in Sauk Center, St. Cloud, Ohio State University and Mankato. It was in Mankato that she continued her education and became a registered nurse. She married her husband, Edward Tschida on October 26, 1970.

Ellie had many interests including traveling, hiking, reading and spending time at her lake cabin. However, her real enjoyment in life came from spending time with family and friends. She was an avid writer and maintained her relationships by regularly sending letters and cards to family and friends.

Ellie is survived by her husband Ed of Mankato; daughter, Angela (Ed) Hiller of Mankato; grandchildren, Leah, Annelise, and William Hiller; mother Marcella Leeb; sister Sherri (Konrad) Johnson of Foreston, MN; Mike (Karen) Leeb of Kasota, MN; and brothers-in-law James (Marcella) Tschida, David (Rosann) Tschida, Steve (Renee) Tschida, Roger (Laure Rausch) Tschida, sister-in-law Karen (Tom) Mullowney and many nieces and nephews.  Her father Herbert preceded Ellie in death.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to ISJ Hospice, ECHO Food Shelf, or the Mankato YMCA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 South Broad Street, Mankato MN with Father John Kunz celebrating the mass. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

My deepest sympathy to Ellie's family! I knew Ellie as my older sister Judy Meyer's dear friend. We grew up knowing her family. She was a lovely lady and may all the memories of good times and laughter be carried on in her memory!

Whenever we would head to the lake I would look forward to seeing Ellie, as she always had love to share with us. She had a smile that could melt even the coldest of Minnesota winters, and a heart that was fuller than the deepest Minnesota Lake. Ellie was a bright light in this world, and will shine even brighter now that she isn't confined to this world. Ellie, dear, say hi to Jesus for me. We love you!!
