Philip Lee Gieser, age 91 of Blue Earth, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, MN.

Philip L. Gieser was born July 17, 1927 to Philip and Anna (Lein) Gieser in Blue Earth. He graduated from Sherburn High School. He then joined the Merchant Marines going on to join the U.S. Army serving as a 82nd Airborne Platoon Staff Sergeant and Paratrooper for four years from 1945-1949 during WW II. Returning home following his discharge, he farmed in the Sherburn area.

He was united in marriage to Patricia A. Lockner on April 10, 1953 at Salem United Brethren Church in Fairmont. Together they had three children, John, Jean and Alan. He farmed for another ten years in the Jackson area. In 1961 he attended the Lee Vocational Barber College in Minneapolis and worked in shops in Lake Crystal and Foley. In 1967 he opened Phil’s Barber Shop in Blue Earth where he worked until retirement in 1993. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Blue Earth and also a member of the American Legion. In his free time Phil enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards and crosswords.

Philip was preceded in death by his wife Patricia of 65 years, Parents, brother Lloyd, sisters Ruby, Blanche, Verna, Phyllis and Pearl.

He is survived by sons, John (Dianne) Gieser and Alan (Wanda) Gieser and one daughter Jean (Bill) Redman all of Blue Earth; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jean and Bill, We are so sorry to read about the passing of your father, Philip Gieser. It is difficult to deal with the passing of one parent and you now have both parents gone in such a short time. We wish we could be there to give you a hug and let you know that we care are sending our sympathy and love.
