   William “Stanley” Smith age 98, passed away on May 17, 2021 after a brief stay at Laurel’s Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
   Stanley was born May 20, 1922 in York County, Nebraska to Dr. Ora and Erma Smith. The family moved to Mankato in 1939 and he served in the Air Force as a pilot from 1942 to his honorable discharge in 1945. He married the love of his life, Beverly Bess Brazier in 1947.
   In the early 1960’s, Stanley ran the Lazy S Riding Stable in South Bend Township. He had a great passion for training race horses which was passed down from two generations. Stanley enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising black labs and collecting. He had various jobs in the grain business and tool and die business, retiring from Kotter & Company in 1987.
   He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly June 17, 2017 and his sister Francella Stewart.
   He is survived by his sons Thomas (Scott Sweeny) Smith of Minneapolis, Douglas (Carol) Smith of Mankato and Daniel (Elizabeth) Smith of Big Fork, Montana and daughter Holly Smith of Mankato. In addition to his children, he had 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was a sweet soul who will be missed by many friends and family.
   No services will be held. Woodland Hills Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. The family would like to thank Mayo Clinic Hospice West Team for their care of Stanley the last two months of his life.
